Algebra is the foundation for all Math and Science. It's critical to have a solid foundation at the beginning levels in order to do well in all future math and science classes. We created this page to address the needs of those students who struggle in Algebra.
The Language of Algebra flows, it builds, it uses logic that you use every day, and it really does make sense.
After 24 years of experience working with hundreds of students, here's what we've noticed over and over again. Usually, there's a bit of psychology going on at the beginning levels of Algebra. Maybe the student has overheard someone talk about how difficult Algebra was for them. Perhaps the student took on the belief that "girls can't do math". Some students who are not naturally mathematically inclined oftentimes believe they just can't do it. These beliefs build the walls to learning that then creates the reality for them... they now, in fact, can't do math. They may feel hopeless, depressed, defeated, embarrassed, or frustrated.
We can help.
We know students can do this, but what matters is that they believe it. When they believe they CAN, then they can. So, we work on that first! Then, Algebra is easy and usually goes rather quickly.
We offer three options for you to choose from: 1. One-on-One Tutoring
You'll be working with a professional who will be giving you 100%. Typically, sessions are one hour; however, you may request longer sessions anytime.
2. Two-on-One Tutoring
Bring a friend. Two-to-One sessions are typically one and a half hours. There are many advantages to a 2/1 student/teacher ratio:
The feeling that you're not alone;
Your friend may ask questions you may not think to ask;
You'll gain another perspective and see another approach;
You'll have someone to study with outside of class and tutoring;
You gain a more solid understanding when you teach someone else;
It's less expensive for each of you;
It's much more fun with a friend.
3. The Algebra Course Review
The Course Review essentially starts at the beginning and scans the course material, confirming what you already know and filling in the holes from missed concepts. Very little homework is involved, as the focus is on understanding the language. It is perfect for anyone who has had Algebra in the past or is currently struggling in Algebra. As we help you learn the language of Algebra, you'll have a better understanding of the big picture.
This review is also a good fit if you need College Algebra and you're not ready. You can 'fast track' through High School Algebra in as little as three months.
The Course Review is available for Algebra 1 (10 hours) & Algebra 2 (20 hours). Currently, it is not for credit; rather for having the basic knowledge necessary to catch up with the rest of your class, pass the final, or possibly test into the next level. Available one-on-one or small groups.
